Old Royal Naval College and Elstree Studies to host a spectacular Guinness World Records attempt
In the last 100 years, the United Kingdom’s Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) – located in Greenwich – has been the base for over 200 production shoots. With this massive status held by the ORNC, it has now been named the number one heritage filming location in the UK. Not only is it just a UNESCO World Heritage site, providing the perfect backdrop for many well-known films and television shows (e.g. Bridgerton, Les Misérables, and even the Muppets), it has now established its place in cinematic history.
As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the ORNC holds both historical and architectural significance from an international perspective. As a filming location for highly acclaimed productions – such as Bridgerton, The Crown, Les Misérables, Napoleon, Enola Holmes, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Diplomat, and Pirates of the Caribbean, Skyfall, and Patriot Games – the site clearly captures the eyes of the creatives behind the numerous projects shot on site. As an English building, the venue rarely ever plays itself as on the screen – doubling instead for Paris, Florence, Berlin, New York, Moscow, or even Lilliput.

With its over 200 production shoots in its portfolio, the UNESCO World Heritage site is ready to become the UK’s number one tourism destination. It hopes to welcome people from all around the world to learn more about their favourite films and television shows. Positioning itself to connect with its visitors, ORNC plans to share the magic of filmmaking while sharing its history as well. Immersing tourists in the behind-the-scenes magic reminding them of the unforgettable cinematic moments they would have witnessed on screen.
In spring of 2025, the building itself opened its doors allowing visitors to explore specific areas of the site that belong to various films and television shows. An unforgettable experience no matter whether or not visitors are film buffs, history lovers, or simply just curious as to where some scenes have been shot. The ORNC has named their new film tour Wigs, Weddings, Powder and Palaces, an all-new look at how the site transforms into a film set and it will showcase the footsteps taken by the actors as well.
In addition to their new exhibition, Old Royal Naval College has partnered up with Elstree Studios to make film history as they attempt to achieve a new Guiness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as film and TV characters. Amidst this attempt, iconic props and photo stations will be featured for fans to view as well – including Cruella’s car, the Batmobile, and a regal Bridgerton inspired throne. Along with live costume inspiration and film scene recreations, there will also be film-themed food, music and fun for all participants of every age.
